morethanithurtsme asked: not to pile on a very much talked about subject, but as a white male I always found it frustrating to have some of the things that are intended to be hedlpful backfire. I remember vividly looking for a novel by john edgar wideman in the bookstore and not being able to find it. I was told later it was in "african american literature". I didn't know he was black, I knew he won the pulitzer prize. Kenzeboro Oe was in with white writers but not John edgar Wideman? Seems ridiculous.

This is interesting. Anyone want to continue this?
