I remember vividly looking for a novel by john edgar wideman in the bookstore and not being able to find it. I was told later it was in "african american literature". I didn't know he was black, I knew he won the pulitzer prize. Kenzeboro Oe was in with white writers but not John edgar Wideman? Seems ridiculous.
